African Reflections’ products are hand made or finished by African artists to reflect the sensations of this vast continent, captured and epitomized in wood, metal, clay, wax, and stone, depicted with fine brushstrokes on eggshell.

Many of the designs come from the crafts-person’s own head or heart, reflecting his or her feelings and impressions of their brush or knife makes contact with the item in their hands.

It is our policy to give African craftsmen and women the opportunity to expand their business, from ineffective roadside wooden shacks and pavement displays in small towns and villages, to the wider consumer market of quality art boutiques in the West. Many of these African artists are practicing their craft in terrible poverty, far from the towns or cities, inside small hovels or actually outside in the dirt and dust of poor villages, with no electricity, sanitation or other services and amenities, all of which are detrimental to health and efficiency. They have no access to bulk transport, no marketing skills, and very little opportunity of selling their crafts to a wider market.

In order to maintain the inherent skills and cultural heritage of Africa, part of our profits will go to poverty alleviation projects, and building decent dwellings and workshops for our craftsmen and women.
